In 2015, we bought a house built in 1895. The bones were great and all I wanted was a big kitchen /living room, master bedroom with ensuite, and no longer wanted the basement stairs to lead directly into the main floor bathroom (true story). Just take a couple of walls down. Easy, right?
I was wrong. The skin was good, the bones were brittle and so bent that it was like living in a skate park. I had to hold onto my desk, so I didn’t roll away. Not to mention my 32 furry and 6 not-so-furry just skeleton remains roommates dropping nut husks onto my bed at 4am.
I called Kelly Built in 2016. Like Ghostbusters, they arrived on the scene ready to save us. They ripped out the guts of the house, including joists and started their magic. Nine months, four steel beams, footings around the entire house, and third floor to basement wall strappings later my home was complete.
The Kelly Built (KB) team, 50% female crew, were professional, organized and cleaned up every night. Did I mention that we lived here while they did the work?
This being my third major reno but the biggest of all the renos was made less stressful by KB with their great communication approach of clear sight to building phases, material deliveries, payment schedules and setting expectations.
With the unpredictable nature of an old house, I appreciated their problem-solving skills (put to the test daily), creativity with an eye on my budget and great design ideas. I was left with a home that I love to spend time in and an ensuite bathroom you see in boutique hotels in Paris.
Our experience with Kelly Built was so great that 2 years later we called them back to build our 40x26 foot garage, 2nd story workshop and breezeway into the house.
It was and still is a traffic stopper. Complete strangers yelling compliments out the window as they drive by.
Hopefully, this is our last reno but if it's not, I will have Kelly Built back on site.

In January 2011, my husband and I hired Stuart Kelly to renovate our new, old Victorian house in downtown Toronto. As general contractor, Stuart was everything we could have hoped for - and more.
To begin with , he gave us a realistic idea of what renovations would cost before we made our offer on the house, and once we took possession and he started work, we were thrilled with the results. The quality of Stuart’s work was superb, he did everything on budget and within reasonable timelines, and he was a pleasure to work with.
In addition, we actually lived in our home while the renovations were undertaken (a period of about five months), so we had ample opportunity to observe Stuart and his crew at work. Not only did they produce great results, they also did everything they could to minimize the inevitable disruption and stress that goes hand-in-hand with any renovation project. We can recommend Stuart without hesitation!
